Gus is a Tibetan Mastiff puppy, 11 months old. He lives in the UK with his sister, Kira, and 12 cats (one of which is Alfiechinacat, the International Champion Household pet). Gus' mom always wanted a Tibetan Mastiff and she ran into a breeder at one of the shows and put her name down for one. When she went to get him she fell in love with his sister Kira and since the buyer had backed out she came home with two. His mom says he and his sister have completely relandscaped their garden... I bet they have. These dogs weigh 100 to 160 pounds when adult. Mom says they race around the yard and then flop over on their backs and sleep.
Kira is a sister to Gus. Her Mom says she is the smart one. The Tibetan mastiff is a very old breed. The large guardian dog of Tibet, a highly prized ancient breed defended their masters and their masters' herds of yak and sheep against wolves and snow leopards. They are guardians and not killers, so they have a temperament that is strong, loyal, fearless and gentle. Unknown to most of the world, one was sent to Queen Victoria in 1847. In 1873 the Kennel Club was formed and the large dog from Tibet was officially designated the Tibetan Mastiff. Kira has already been showing and has qualified for the Crufts Dog Show March 10. Kira loves to show and show off... we cheer her on!
The beautiful Maggie is the featured cat for November. Maggie spent a year at the rescue shelter before she was adopted by her forever family. She had been adopted twice before and returned. Once for being too needy and once for startling too easily. What don't people "get" about rescue cats... they need love and understanding and time. Her mom says she is a real love, gentle and affectionate. They liked her so much they went right back and got her sister Aggie. They all live happily in Florida, where they keep their eyes out for lizards that might come close to their screened-in deck.
